Know which jobs made money
A quote is a forecast. Most shops never find out how far it was off, so the same jobs lose money year after year. Spindlewise costs every finished job again with the minutes that were actually logged, and shows you where the profit went.
Each job, costed again
- Machine and labour minutes are replaced by the setup and run time logged on the floor, at the rates frozen in the quote, so the difference is only what happened on the floor.
- Material follows the pieces actually started; outside work and other costs stay as quoted.
- Overhead and admin are added at the quote's own percentages, and sales are the line totals the buyer accepted, before tax.
An operation without logged time keeps its quoted minutes, and the job is marked partial and left out of the totals, so a missing record never looks like a win.
Where the money went
- Profit kept against profit quoted, return on sales, and the number of jobs that lost money.
- Grouped by customer, process, material or quantity, to see the patterns: the customer whose jobs always run over, the material you under-price, the small batches that never pay.
- Every job from least profitable down, with the operation that ran over most and what it cost, and extra material where more pieces were started than planned.
The guide to finding the jobs that lose money works through an example by hand.
Better times on the next quote
Once a machine has a few finished jobs, Spindlewise works out how its setups and cycles really compare with the estimates, for example "setups take 1.4 times as long as quoted". Approve the suggestion and the quote editor shows the adjusted time next to each operation on that machine. Prices never change on their own: you decide when to use it.
The rest of the picture
Insights also shows your win rate, the value won against the value quoted, return on won and lost quotes, how long quotes take to get an answer, why quotes are lost, your top customers, and actual hours against quoted hours by process.
Only owners, admins and estimators see these reports. They are on every plan.
