For turning shops
Quoting software for CNC turning shops
Turned parts look simple on a quote and rarely are: the bar size, the cut-off, how many passes it takes, whether the small diameters run out of rpm, the cross-drilled hole and the thread on the end. Spindlewise puts all of that on one line, at your rates, and shows the cost behind the price.
Cycle times from cutting data, not guesses
Add a turning operation and fill in the cutting speed, feed and depth of cut for the insert you use. Spindlewise works out the roughing passes, the finishing pass and the facing, caps the spindle speed at your lathe's maximum, and turns that into minutes per part. You can still type your own time: the template is a starting point you can override, and the reason is kept with the quote.
The same method is in the free CNC turning time calculator, and the turning time guide walks through it with an example.
Round bar blanks from the customer's 3D model
Attach the STEP file and Spindlewise measures the part on the server: volume, the smallest box, and the smallest round bar it fits in along its long axis. One click turns that into a round-bar blank with your stock allowance and saw kerf, priced by weight from your material list. Another adds the turning operations for that diameter on your lathe.
Holes found in the model become drilling and tapping operations, with tapping-drill sizes recognised. If the drawing says “2x M6x1.0” or “1/4-20 UNC”, the thread on the drawing wins over the hole size in the model.
Bar stock priced honestly
Material is costed from the blank, including the cut-off, and the planned yield adds the extra pieces you start. Small batches carry their setup and programming instead of hiding them in a unit price, and the quote shows several quantities side by side so the buyer sees why 20 off costs more each than 200. The bar stock guide shows how parts per bar and the bar end change the material line.
Know which turned jobs make money
Operators log setup and run time per operation from a phone. Each finished job is costed again with the hours it really took, so you can see whether turning cycles run long on one lathe, or one customer's parts keep eating the margin. When a pattern holds over several jobs, Spindlewise suggests a correction for that machine and shows it next to the times you type on the next quote. Read more in which jobs lose money.
